90+ Wines

Under the Independent Wine Review scoring system, wines that score in excess of 90 points are classified as outstanding. 90+ wines are wines that are exceptional in the context of other wines produced from the same grape varieties, blends and regions of origin. 90+ wines really are the best that a grape variety, blend or region can offer. 90+ wines are those wines that The Independent Wine Review would recommend unequivocally as outstanding examples of their type.

Given the large number of wines reviewed at The Independent Wine Review (and the number of requests that we receive to see wines ranked by score), it seemed logical to create a record of the most outstanding wines reviewed by the Independent Wine Review in one place, for quick and easy reference. This page is that record.

At this point it is well worth mentioning that a wine only receives a 90+ score as a result of considered tasting and the formulation of a detailed tasting note. These notes and the stories behind each of these outstanding 90+ wines can be viewed by clicking the score (e.g. "94") links below. The styles of 90+ wines (even amongst those wines from the same region and grape varieties) can be substantially different and it is well worth consulting the detailed notes to discover the nuances of any specific wine, to see how enjoyable it is likely to be for your own personal taste.

All wines scoring 90+ are eligible for the IWR Awards that are awarded each November.
